When it comes to exercise and fitness, not all exercise needs to be high intensity to be effective. The fallacy of “no pain, no gain” can put many people off, thinking if they exercise they have to do it tough.
The most important factor to consider with exercise and fitness is consistency. If you exercise regularly at a low to medium intensity, the benefits are huge. You can reduce the risk of cardiovascular disease, you can lower your blood pressure and you can lose body fat effectively.
If you are training for a special competition or event however, then the results you’re after are quite different. In this case you will most likely need the higher intensity workouts to achieve your goals. You won’t get bigger muscles with low intensity weight training routines for example.
However if your main goal with exercise and fitness is to improve your overall health and well being, then regular, low intensity workouts, combined with a sensible diet will achieve this.
