As mentioned in previous posts, one of the best exercises for fat burning is strength training. While cardio definitely burns fat, strength training really is the secret weapon for getting in shape.
Among other things, strength training will help you lose body fat and stay toned and muscular looking. Some women may worry that they will bulk up if they lift too many weights, too often, however the more muscles women build, the smaller they look. That may sound a bit contradictory but the reason is because muscles actually take up more space in your body than fat.
All the work of muscle building happens after your workouts. This is due to the fact that lifting weights causes small tears in your muscles, therefore in the rest phase, the muscle growth happens because your body is in repair mode.
So the reason strength training is one of the best exercises for fat burning, is that your body needs to use stored body fat to fuel the growth and repair of your muscles. That’s why you need proper rest in between. It’s also good to alternate your training days between upper and lower body workouts as this ensures proper rest for the different muscle groups.
