With the worldwide economic climate as it is you may need to consider fitness on a budget. Maybe your gym membership is getting too hard to keep up with or your weekly personal training money needs to be spent elsewhere. Don’t despair though, there are plenty of fat burning exercises you can do at home or in your local park.
A low coffee table can be a very useful piece of exercise equipment, as long as it is sturdy. Alternatively use a high step or a low bench. It needs to be just below the height of your knee. Perform single leg step-ups, do 15-20 on each side, rest for 60 seconds then do another 15-20 reps. Once this gets easy, speed up your steps and increase your number of reps.
For a more active, fat burning exercise, jump onto the coffee table, step or bench with both feet. Jump up for 15-20 reps, rest for 60 seconds then repeat for another 15-20 reps. You can build this up to more reps and sets as your fitness improves. Make sure you keep pushing yourself.
You can also use your coffee table for push ups and triceps dips. Again perform two sets of 15-20 reps, resting for 60 seconds in between.
Another budget conscious way to exercise at home is to purchase a fitness DVD. Although there is a small initial upfront cost, you can of course play the DVD over and over and so for fitness on a budget, DVDs are an excellent option. There are so many great fitness DVDs out there on the market, here’s just a few popular ones that I can highly recommend. Jillian Michaels of Biggest Loser Fame and Tracey Anderson, celebrity trainer of Madonna and Gwyneth Paltrow.
If your budget can’t stretch you could always check out your local library or there’s even free videos on the internet such as the one below by Tracey Anderson on YouTube.
Even more ideas for fitness on a budget include getting back to good old fashioned fun while you’re exercising! Why not go dancing, rollerblading, or get together with a group of friends at your local park and play ball. You’d be surprised at how many calories you can burn with these sorts of fun activities.
