New series!
In the “Fat burning meals” series you’ll learn about some of the best meal plans to help you burn fat successfully.
This first post will talk about the best fat burning foods for your breakfast. I’m sure many of you have heard before that breakfast is the most important meal of the day. That being said, it’s such an easy meal to overlook as many of us feel too rushed in the mornings to even think about preparing breakfast, let alone eating it!
The meaning of breakfast is to “break the fast”. There is often a large gap between your evening meal and the following day’s first meal of the day. This means your body can be without nutrients for up to 12 hours or more. This can reduce your sugar levels dramatically, especially if you skip breakfast and don’t eat until mid morning. Low blood sugar levels will affect your concentration and mental abilities.
Another important factor to realize is that your metabolic rate will drop considerably. As mentioned in the previous post about fat burning nutrition, this has a huge effect on your ability to burn fat.
So now you will understand why breakfast is one of the most important fat burning meals of the day. You need to ensure however, that you are eating the right kind of breakfast. Included in your breakfast should be protein. Protein is perfect for giving you a steady supply of energy all day and plays a big part in preventing that afternoon slump a lot of us can get around 3pm in the afternoon. This “slump” is an indication of low blood sugar levels.
So to prevent this, include plenty of protein in your first fat burning meal of the day. This can include eggs, baked beans, sardines, or ricotta cheese. Any of these can be served on toast for a healthy start to the day.
Smoothies made from soy milk or low-fat cow’s milk, egg plus fruit such as bananas or strawberries are also a great source of protein.
If you prefer porridge for breakfast try this recipe below:
- 1/2 cup porridge oats
- 1/2 cup low fat cottage cheese
- 1/2 cup water
- maple syrup
Mix the oats and water into a bowl and microwave for 2 minutes. Remove from the microwave and stir well. Stir in the cottage cheese and a small amount of maple syrup to taste. You may like to add some sliced bananas to this for extra goodness.
