Performing loads of abs exercises may not always result in belly fat reduction or the ‘six pack’ so many people are after. There are, however, many other benefits from having strong stomach muscles including less risk of back problems as well as maintaining a better posture.
A number of misconceptions surround the whole area of belly fat reduction and abs exercises. You may have been told you need to do a lot more reps of abs exercises than other types of exercise. This is untrue and the danger of this is poor technique. You are far better off doing less reps and really focusing on doing the correct technique. This ensures you are working the correct muscles throughout your abs workouts.
Another myth is that doing loads of abs exercises will reduce your waist size. Again this is untrue. While you do need to do abdominal exercises to strengthen and develop your abdominal muscles, they will only start to show when you reduce your overall body fat.
Contrary to popular belief, sit ups are not the most important abdominal exercise. You need to be performing a variety of exercises that work on both your upper and lower abdominal muscle areas. Focusing on your oblique muscles are also necessary to strengthen the entire abdominal area and work on definition.
Finally, it is not imperative that you do abdominal exercises every single day. It is far better that you incorporate sufficient rest in between your abs workouts to get the most benefit. That way you can allow yourself to work much harder on the days that you do your abs exercises.
